Taken Off into the Friendly Skies

Later this afternoon, Jeff and I are heading to Maryland to see Grandpa and Zack for the Thanksgiving weekend. We are flying this time. I didn't want to sit in the holiday traffic here and there as we drove south. But, I can't wait!

We'll arrive in MD around supper time this evening and then we will head to Grandpa's. We'll spend the holiday eating and relaxing at Grandpa's while my Uncle cooks dinner. I'll help here and there, but usually its a prepared meal from a local restaurant and the food just has to be heated up. So, that just leaves us to eat and relax during the day.

Grandpa and his typical look that says "what do you want?"
On Friday, around 10am we'll get Zack. Not sure yet if he'll be dropped off at Grandpa's or if we have to go to her hotel to pick him up (or even if it'll be at 10am), but we'll see when we get to that point. Then we'll have him for the weekend until Sunday mid-morning.

Zack several years ago, hence the gameboy & not his PSP, but caught off guard
So, I can't wait to see either of these guys. We have shopping, eating, visiting and of course revealing baby news to everyone!!

Good luck & be safe to everyone with your holiday travel plans!

Has this ever happened to you?

Have you ever been in a store and its robbed?

Well the other night, my FIL and I were in that type of situation (a "minor" robbery situation with no weapons).

Here is our story-

We were leaving Walmart plaza around 5pm on Saturday night. My FIL wanted to stop by a little hole in the wall cell phone store that is on the same road (but in its own little parking lot) to get his phone fixed for a minor cosmetic issue. We entered the store and noticed the clerk was sitting behind the counter helping a customer.

My FIL and myself were checking out the phones in the store while the clerk was helping the other customer. We could hear chit chat between them, but not really paying attention to them.

All of a sudden my FIL walks over the table near the door, I turn to face my FIL and I see the other customer at the counter. I hear him say thanks buddy then run at full speed out the door, through the parking lot, into the dark area behind the store. The clerk then yelled hey, hey come back here. I just stood there and my FIL takes off out the door after the kid. The clerk not too far behind.

So, I'm standing in the cell phone store all buy myself watching the clerk and my FIL talking to some lady in a van out the window. Come to find out the lady in the van almost hit the kid (she should have too) as he ran out the store. The clerk returned to the store and called his manager and my FIL returned too. The manager didn't want the clerk to do much about the stolen $100 Bluetooth device.

The stolen Bluetooth device
I guess before we arrived at the store there were two kids in the store asking the clerk odd questions about phones and bluetooth devices. One of the kids said, hey I'll be back I have to go get the money and then we walked in the store with the remaining kid (who looked about 17 years old) at the counter.

There was no one that was hurt, the merchandise was and will never be recovered and I hope they clerk doesn't get into too much trouble. Now that I think about it, the situation could have been alot worse, but we walked away feeling bad for the clerk more then anything.

Ok, Its Official

Its official. My hormones are out of control, like any pregnant women's.

It really didn't dawn on me too much while I was at work (or home) that I would get snippy with people when I usually wouldn't....nope not then.

Or, the frequent headaches that are caused by increased hormones....nope that neither.

Those unexpected breakouts.....no, that couldn't be a sign either.

What convinced me was this - Yesterday morning while driving to work, a radio ad for a local grocery store came on about Thanksgiving. I've heard this ad before, but yesterday morning the water works started flowing as I drove to work as the sappy commercial played. Yup, I cried as the sounds of Grandma's traditions during Thanksgiving filled my ears.

OK, now I can officially say that my hormones are out of control, like they should! Watch our world!

Thankful Thursday

  1. My mom being convinced to start her Christmas Shopping before Thanksgiving. I bring her for the bulk of her shopping and I convinced her to go this weekend since the mall is having a fundraiser/sale after hours. She usually starts mid-December.
  2. My yoga class. Well, of course I'm grateful for the health benefits but what I'm grateful for this week is the night sleep after the class I encountered. Ahhhh!
  3. Having an auto starter in my van. That is the first thing I had installed when I bought the van over two years ago and I love it on cold mornings like we've had the past few days.
  4. I get to see my Grandpa and Zack next week for Thanksgiving! I miss them both so much.
  5. Southwest Airlines for not charging luggage fee's. We have to pack a bag for Zack and we don't have to pay extra for it, yeah!

Over & Over

Have you ever had a movie where you just can't get enough of? You can watch that same movie over and over again without getting sick of it?

I had one when I was younger and it was Terminator 2. I would pop that movie into the VCR and watch it over and over. I think I wore the tape out now that I think about it.

Now-a-days its Transformers. We saw the movie originally in the theaters and it was just awesome. I couldn't believe how real the autobots looked with all the action and the cutie Shia Labeouf running around all the time didn't hurt either. We can't wait for the sequel to come out this summer.

I don't find myself popping the movie into DVD in all the time, but our cable company plays this movie ALL the time. I mean, at least 5 times a week we can find it on one of the movie channels. If Jeff or I are flipping through the channels and we see that Transformers is on, we don't pass over the movie. We just sit back and relax (make a comment, hey we haven't seen this one in a long time) and continue to watch the movie from the point we find it. I cannot get sick of this movie. I have no idea how many times I've seen it in the last couple of years. I know its more then Terminator 2.

So, is there anyone out there who can't get enough of a certain movie(s)? Or is it just me (and Jeff)?

The Recent Check-Up

The other day was my 16 week check-up. I had to meet another doctor in the practice since when its my day to go in labor, you never know who will be on-call. I was very pleased with the new doctor I met and felt really confident in what we chatted about. Now there's two doctors I know that I will be very comfortable through out my labor in the spring.

As for my apt, that went well too. I've only gained about 6 pounds (which I didn't believe, it feels and looks like I gained more) so far. I chatted with the doctor about holiday foods and if there were any to stay away from? He told me hey, your pregnant eat up. There isn't anything to avoid. I commented and said, bring on the pumpkin pie.

Then he listened for the baby's heartbeat. As soon as he put the little microphone on my belly, the wonderful whoosh sound filled the room. Then he moved the microphone ever so slightly and the sound just got louder. It was music to my ears.

He then asked if we were thinking of names yet. I said we have but nothing too concrete yet since we want to find out what we will be blessed with first. Then we both said at the same time, if the baby cooperates!! Isn't that the truth.

So, my next baby apt is mid-december. I'll have an ultrasound and a followup with the doctor. I can't wait to spread the news if we will be having a little boy or a little girl.

Much, Much Better

I couldn't find another prenatal yoga class in my area. My usual yoga center wasn't holding any prenatal classes (since its hard to get a group together) and they couldn't find any in the area either. But, one of the coordinators said that since I've done yoga in the past and that its a practice to your body capabilities, that I could take a regular class.

So, Char and I signed up for an 8 week (we missed the first week so its really 7 weeks for us) Beyond Basics Class. Last night was our first class and let me tell you, it was great to be back in my usual surroundings. I explained to the instructor of my "condition" and she had no problem with me being in the class.

The pace of the class and what we practiced was great. I didn't do some of the poses all the way, but I did what I could with this belly getting in the way (hee, hee, hee). It was so lovely to be back and I can't wait until next week.

Remember the Troops

Remember the troops who are serving and those who have served in the past for our freedom.

Secret Diary of a Call Girl

I can't really go into too much detail about this book, but I'm sure you get the idea. The interesting part of the novel and one of the reasons I picked it up was, this was written from Belle's blog.

Yup, straight from her own blog (I'm sure the writing was changed a tad to flow like a novel at some spots) but see what blogs can lead too......book writing (not becoming a call girl silly).

But, the book was set up with daily entry's like a diary/blog which made the content flow easy and be a quick read.

The book covered everything from Belle's job (at times very explicit, just a heads-up) with her customers and the issues with her manager to her personal life and everything in between.

If you don't mind reading about a working girl with a sense of humor, this novel is defiantly something you should check out. Otherwise, try checking out the series on Showtime. I don't have Showtime, but maybe I'll see if Blockbuster online can supply it for me, hmmmm?

How I'm Doing at 15 1/2 Weeks

I was hoping to have a baby bump picture to go along with my post today, but it didn't turn out that way. So, maybe sometime this week I'll show off my little bump.

As for how I'm feeling, I'm doing good. I have a little more energy then I did a few weeks ago but I still have moments where I just want to lie on the couch and veg. My nausea is going away, but comes back to surprise me once and awhile. I still have those food aversions (I can't eat spaghetti sauce or hamburger for the time being).

I am starting to crave things, but the kind where I see it in a commercial or someone mentions the food and then I want it. I haven't had the kind where all of a sudden I want pickles and ketchup, nothing like that. But, once I'm hungry, watch out. I need to eat then & now and don't stand in my way. That's been the way since early on. Jeff is still learning not to take all that personally and that I just need to eat.

This coming up Friday I will have my 16 week/4 month check up. I was hoping for an ultra sound, but I have to wait until my 20 week apt. Oh well!

Now we have to figure out how we will be telling Zack. We will break our good news over Thanksgiving, but we are trying to come up with a creative way to do so. I have a "I am a big brother" book that we can give him, but Jeff wants to give him an ultra sound picture that I will find online to give to him. Any ideas???

An Evening with Stephen King

Well, it wasn't just me and Mr King. The event was a round table discussion with Stephen King, Richard Russo, Joe Donahue (who is radio talent in NY) and an auditorium filled with people. This event was to raise funds for a local food bank in our area and which in turn was able to hand over a sum of over $18,000. Wow!

So, me, my friend Char, her daughter and friend and my mom went to the event. We played musical chairs to find a decent location where we could see the stage. Finally we found our comfy seats in the balcony over looking the venue and settled in for our treat.

The three gentlemen where introduced and when they walked on stage, the whole room was filled with cheers. They sat in fancy high back chairs along the stage, but still able to see each other. Joe was the narrator of the evening, asking the authors questions that would segway into their discussions.

They talked about politics and the recent election, inspirations for past novels, how each of the authors met years ago, tales of how they got to where they are now, novels vs. short stories and anything else you can imagine in an open forum between friends.

Stephen King was actually pretty witty and funny. You would imagine him being dark and spooky with a warped sense of humor, but he was pretty much just had a warped sense of humor and knew how to use it. He was great to listen to and is such a free spirit.

Richard Russo was a down to earth kind of guy who loves to write and definitely feed off of Stephen with the discussions, but in a good light hearted way. I'm actually pretty interested in reading one of his novels now, so I can't wait to get started on his new book "Bridges of Sighs".

It was definitely a great evening out and I can't wait for the next book signing/discussion that we find.

Get out there and Vote!

It doesn't matter who you vote for, blue or red, just get out there and cast your ballot. There are so many things your vote will way out on, like ballot questions (MA has 3 this year), senate seats, local political seats and oh yeah that little presidential race that's been going on for the past year.

Ultimate Princess Weekend

Ahhhh, to be 4 years old again to have a Princess filled weekend. My niece Ally had Halloween and her 4th birthday all rolled into one weekend. It must have been bliss in her little world.

Ally as Snow White (how precious, huh?)
She stopped by Halloween night with her parents on her trek around town for visits. We were her last stop of the Snow White tour, but it was just as fun. She helped her Auntie Mana hand out candy to trick-or-treaters, wanted to try every candy in the dish (but only got away with a couple) and shared her adventures from visiting her other relatives that night.

Ally as everyone sang Happy Birthday to her
Then Sunday, little Ally turned 4 years old. I can't belive it. Her parents had a slide show going during the party and to look at her baby pictures and compare them to who she is today, its unreal. I told her mom that it seems like a year ago she was born, not 4 years ok. Also, Ally was so excited! She even ran out to the car to great us and tell us it was her birthday.

Her mommy and her sister made this gorgeous cake. It was so beautiful and tasty. It just put the icing on the cake (no pun intended) for the entire theme. Ally had balloons, paper plates, a banner and lots of presents wrapped in a Princess theme for her. Most of her gifts had a princess theme to it too!
Remember back in early October I went birthday shopping for Ally? Well, here is the dress up outfit that me and Uncle Jeff bought for her. It was so worth it to wait until everyone left to see her try on the outfit. She even turned Uncle Jeff into a frog with her magic wand!
She was too cute the entire weekend!
